What We Do

OUR GOALS

Illuminate

We aim to highlight those people, organizations, and causes that often go over-looked or underfunded while also spotlighting the human side of larger issues that affect the lives of our community.

Organize

From monthly missions to Serve teams, Sleep Outs to benefit concerts, disaster cleanup to meals for our food insecure, our first responders, and our linesmen, Mission Change has spent over a decade organizing events that mobilize our city around a cause.

Volunteer

We make volunteering easy! Our missions are fun, hands-on, personally rewarding, and designed to illustrate how every single one of us can make a positive difference in the lives of those around us as well as ourselves.

Give

As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we rely solely on the generosity of the individuals and businesses in the community we serve. Every gift - whether time, in-kind, or monetary - directly benefits the causes we support and the lives we work to change.

About Us

OUR MISSION

Founded in 2008, Mission Change is a hands-on nonprofit organization located in Albany, GA that aims to highlight and serve the people and causes in everyday communities that often go overlooked and underfunded. From homelessness to food insecurity; at-risk youth to those struggling with drug and alcohol abuse; from the needs of the elderly to those of citizens with disabilities. We are both a resource to those with nowhere else to turn as well an outlet providing an easy, hands-on approach for people who want to take action and make a positive, visible difference within their community and beyond.

All Served. All Welcome.

Mission Change is a certified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization operated exclusively for charitable purposes in accordance with Georgia and Federal law. We are  not affiliated with any one religion, faith, political persuasion, or other organized ideology. Just as community is not made up of any one type of person, persuasion, or belief, we don’t believe you have to be a certain way in order to help or deserve assistance. Community is made up of all of us. It belongs to all of us. Therefore Mission Change welcomes all beliefs, all walks-of-life, everyone to come participate in making the community a better place.

EDUCATION THROUGH ACTION

Change the World
From Your Backyard

Every few months Mission:Change sponsors a Local Mission designed to highlight various areas of need in the community and connect volunteers with the specific causes and organizations striving every day to serve them. From building affordable housing through Habitat for Humanity, to handing out food to the hungry through the Food Bank; from performing much needed maintenance at a homeless shelter for women and children, to simply spending a fun-filled Saturday with local under-served city children. Each mission is another opportunity to affect positive change in the world outside your door.

Summer Serve Teams

MORE THAN JUST A MISSION TRIP

Every June and July, Mission Change offers out-of-town groups an opportunity to come and serve in Albany, GA on a unique mission trip unlike any they’ve experienced before. Over the course of a week volunteering with various local causes and organizations, our Serve Teams not only help improve our local community, but – and just as importantly – learn how best to serve the people and institutions most in need within their own  communities. Considering that the vast majority of groups sign up to serve again the very next year, it’s safe to say that lives are changing in Albany – not only those within our homeless community, our under-served youth, and our often-overlooked senior citizens, but just as much the ones doing the serving.

A Typical Day

Every morning, teams serve the community in a different capacity, including serving breakfast at the Salvation Army; doing crafts, exercise and lunch with the Council On Aging; cleaning up parks, graffiti, and beautifying the city through the Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful campaign; organizing canned goods and packaging boxes for food insecure families at the FoodBank, among other service activities. Afternoons are generally spent in the park doing outside activities and crafts with under-served kids from the “projects,” many of whom attend Mission Change’s Village after school program. Evening gatherings allow our teams time to reflect on their day and share those things, big or small, that perhaps made them think differently about the people and community they served.
