Perhaps better known f or their jingling bells at Christmas time, The Salvation Army does more than collect donations for the homeless and the needy. For over 100 years they have been providing assistance to people with social and spiritual afflictions. Our local Salvation Army services nine counties in the Albany area. In addition to serving breakfast and dinner six days a week, they offer emergency shelter for up to 14 calendar days a year, then if needed after this, the clients situation is evaluated and an extension may be granted for 30 more days with a charge of $5.00 per night for program service fees. Clothing and food are also issued to clients based on emergency need. Clothing can be received every six months and food every 90 days. These are not the only services that The Salvation Army offers, two other programs that keep the employees busy are utility assistance and eligibility for the recently awarded stimulus money for the Housing Prevention and Rapid Rehousing Program.
With the jingling of those Christmas bells behind us, and spring just around the corner - what better time than this to partner with The Salvation Army and do some spring cleaning in and around the faclity and grounds and some planting of shrubs and flowers around the buildings. While our partner focuses on the needs of our homeless and needy neighbors, won't you join us in sprucing up their facilities? We hope to see you there!
