Monthly Mission: August
We hope to see you at August’s Monthly Mission with Second Harvest Food Bank! August 20th from 8:30am until 12pm! We will be partnering with our local food bank to help salvage and box nonperishable food items that were donated through the Stamp Out Hunger Drive they hosted by the Postal Service. Our mission for this particular day is to go through all the food items to make sure that they have good expiration dates and can still be available for the commnunity to use when they come to the food bank. We will also be boxing these items for easy access to those who come in need, and the boxed items can be used with the manna truck that can go out into the community to serve those who cannot get to the food bank.
They ask that we wear closed toe shoes to prevent any injuries from dropping canned goods on as you are working with them. Bottled water will be available to the volunteers as needed. With this particular mission, we are not asking you to donate anything but your time. This is so important to the food bank because they depend greatly on community volunteers to help them continue to provide the best food items that they can to those in the community who are in need. We may not think that this means anything to anyone, but it is a huge deal to be sure that our neighbors in need receive canned and boxed food that has good expiration dates, and are not damaged in any way when they receive it. Our NEXT goal will be to raise enough funds to use a manna truck through the Second Harvest Food Bank so that all of us can go out into the community and serve those in need of food! The amount to fill a manna truck is approximately $1800. This will help us feed hundreds of people in southwest Georgia! Be the change!
