A dream that started less than a year ago is nearly a reality. In talking with our homeless neighbors, we learned that something so basic as taking a shower was a challenge and obstacle for them. Their options are bathing in the river or out of a sink in a public restroom. Many of us never realize that something as basic as a warm shower can truly change lives, not only in terms of simple hygiene but also in improving self-esteem and personal confidence.

The exterior of the trailer was recently completed, and soon installation of the 4 shower stalls and washer and dryer will commence. When complete, our homeless brothers and sisters will have access to what so many of us take for granted: a safe, clean place to bathe themselves and wash their clothes.

None of this would have been possible without the outpouring of love and support from the community. Proceeds from the November 2009 Hope for the Hungry and Homeless Sleep Out along with generous donations from Albany Electric, the Albany Board of Realtors and the Debutante Club have made this unit possible...our most heartfelt thanks to everyone has helped make this dream a reality.
