CHRISTMAS BLESSINGS!

FAMILY RECEIVES CHRISTMAS CHEER THIS SEASON: ALBANY, GA
Back in mid November, a young woman drove her borrowed car into the parking lot of Providence Church with two small children in tow. In a desperate situation in Atlanta that required an immediate relocation in order to simply survive, her family packed three trash bags a few days before, and headed to Albany in search of a new fresh start. She had just dropped her husband off for a job interview at Golden Corral, and had a few minutes on her hands. With all of the feelings that poverty brings emotionally and physically, she stumbled into the foyer and hopelessly asked, "Do y'all help homeless people?". Being a church located right next to the mall we tend to get recirculated stories asking for help. This one though, touched our hearts.
We made arrangements for them to have a place to stay for a week. With a few Facebook blasts, they had enough toys and clothes that would keep their children clothed and occupied for a while. People provided Thanksgiving dinner for them that they otherwise would not have had. The outpouring of love and giving had become, in their words, overwhelming. After a few weeks of work, they pulled everything they had and got into a small place to call home. I went over to their place to see what a little bit of love could do, and quickly realized that we could do more. That's when I approached La Donna Urick after a MISSION:CHANGE board meeting about the opportunity to get involved. Although they had a roof over their head, there was a little more needed to make it a home. Mission:Change stepped up and provided a bed, dresser, clothes, diapers, and weeks worth of food. Here is an excerpt of an email I received form Kathryn, "We just wanted to thank you for believing in our family! You and Mission:Change have blessed us over and over again! Thank you Thank you Thank you. We are finally on our feet now! Thank you for that boost of faith and grace." The whole family came to the M:C Christmas Eve Brunch and helped serve those who they could closely identify with, and extended the message of hope. The Banks' family is living proof of what can happen when a community can come together and provide people with more than a hand out, but a hand up.
